Jalan Kesehatan is one of the vital lines in the area ofvUGM. This road provides access to the campus. Moreover, it is the only access to the main hospital, Dr. Sardjito Hospital. Not only as a connecting line transportation, it is also functioned as place to make a living, especially for the street vendors (PKL). Every day, dozens of vendors offer their sales along the road in front of the hospital.
Mokhamad Ali Zaenal, Minister of Advocacy BEM KM UGM said that Dr.Sardjito Hospital, which is one of the national referral hospitals, demands rapid response and health facility. This demand cannot be fulfilled if there are still a lot of unhealthy food products and the presence of congestion in front of the hospital which often disturbs the medical transportation process. “Traffic jam is a huge problem. The emergency patients, for example, should get a fast access to the hospital and if there are many vehicles on the road, the patients will be in a very huge risk of being treated late, “added Zulfikar Lutfi, the Head of Advocacy Department BEM KM UGM
Actually, the relocation of street vendors near Dr.Sardjito Hospital is not just once scheduled. A few years ago the street vendors were all planned to be relocated. However, because of new traders arrive, it makes their income decreased, and street vendors were then relocated back to its original location. In order toovercome this, BEM KM involves BEM FEB as the marketing and branding strategy evaluation team in order to create a commercial area, give training, suggestion, and branding for the street vendors. “We plan to make free marketing training for them,” said Arif Teguh Gunawan, Head of Advocacy Department and Negotiation BEM FEB.
Besides marketing training, other things that need to be considered to maintain is the relocation site. In this case, KM FT plays an important role as a team of evaluation of urban design, construction, land function, parking consequences and physical engineering to support good relocation, fair, convenient, and sustainable. Relocation will take place on the left and the surroundings of Sardjito Hospital and the Faculty of EngineeringUGM
Arif reminded that the relocation of Sardjito street vendors aims to find a “win-win” solution for all parties, namely street vendors, Dr. Sardjito Hospital, community settling near the hospital area, and also UGM. Optimism regarding the relocation of Sardjito street vendors isthe previous succeed of Pujale (Pusat Jajanan Lembah) and Foodcourt relocation.
