I was not really impressed in a journalistic world, until I met EQ.
The feeling was weird. In the early year of college, some open recruitments were published. A friend of mine encouraged me to join EQ (college press association) with her. I said I didn’t have any skills related to journalism. Although I often wrote some opinions in personal website, I didn’t think people would like to read. And I kept all of those opinions dimmed by myself.
Day by day was going on. It was hard to not have a place to shelter, to not have partners to tell stories, to not have close friends to share problems, to not have a supporting atmosphere to study. It was hard to adapt. Yet, friends of mine always passionately told me about EQ. Then it came to the decision that apparently changed my whole life.
Decision to join EQ was the first decision I made in the second term of college life. And it was the best decision I made so far. This place is full of energetic, passionate, and inspiring people. There are many kinds of people. Those who are shy start to diffuse, those who are smart start sharing their knowledge, those who are closed start to tell stories. All people change to be a better one. It also changed me a lot. Supports are spread, the atmosphere is good. EQ is actually the most suitable place to develop.
In EQ, you can not be an averaged college student, because the atmosphere pushes you to do more. Awesome people gather here. Dimas Diajeng Jogja, news anchors, authors, event conceptors, MUN delegation, and leaders of organizations started their early step in EQ. With the fact that outstanding people are around, EQ is the organization which makes you feel uncomfortable of being an averaged person. You will be incredibly motivated to achieve something.
I learn that inspiring people transmit positive vibes, so be around them. If you ever have a bad day, just come home (red. Bilik EQ) and tell what’s going on. You will soon be motivated. People there will wake you up and get your spirit burnt. Bilik EQ is home. You can study for quizzes, do homeworks, make presentations, share problems, take a nap or only to lay down.
So that I call it family instead of organization. This sounds cliche but true. Because when you can be yourself, express your hidden aptitude, and show who you really are in front of them; they are no longer your coworkers, they are your family. It is the moment that awakens to realize that working in a supportive atmosphere is a pleasure.
